Tuesday 30 October 2007: Heidi and Sarah love their plant so very much!

Sarah says:
Sometimes a plant can make you so very happy - and I don't just mean a marijuana plant ;-). Look how nicely our plant is growing. It's so wild and tropical. It's our good friend. ASG - I'll have you know I am wearing red today!!!! Maybe you only see the black but I wear lots of colors!!!

Time for the second bout of hair removal! I'll let you know how it goes. I must say I have been very pleased with the results of the first zaps!

huh? I never said anything about you not wearing red? Is that my plant? The one you gave us is thriving. I replanted her and she LOVES it.

Not about red in particular - just colors in general! Today I'm wearing a rainbow shirt just for you sweety-pie! Your plant, which we call A, as you know, is in my bedroom. She is also thriving! Viva A plants! By the way - sorry again about my out-of-it chat the other night. Too much snot and too many drugs. Last night, I'm pretty sure I coughed my brains and guts out! Going back to the A plant - last night our smaller one downstairs commit suicide by falling off the table. TC had tied her all up and she just couldn't take it. She fell right over. All her dirt dropped on the floor. It was awful! I think we can bring her back to life, but time will tell. Maybe she checks Face The Day when we are gone and was jealous of the plant shown...

What a shame about the suicidal plant. Maybe she's not into bondage. And just for the record I never meant anything about you and wearing colors. I did point out your own confession that you feel more vivid when you wear pink and also that the Belgian's in general are possibly not the best source to draw your fashion sense (with notable exceptions of course - like Heidi!). I'm glad you are wearing more color. Do you feel more vivid? Are you still wearing the same clothing for days on end? Do you also sleep in them? That would be very easy then you could just jump out of bed and go! And as you rightly implied - showers are for pussies!! At least that's what I gathered from my time working in Belgium. While you're at it you should forgo brushing your teeth - it's really a waste of time and as long as you give 'em a good scrub once every few days you'll be fine.

No probs with the stunted chat. I could tell you were out of it.

Happy Halloween!! What are you going as? A smelly Belgian?!?! :-)

How was gay paris?

weird... i don't see Belgians as filthy, stinky people.
I see us as very normal, hardworking people who take care of themselves. And I have lived here for 29 years!

PS I know that Sarah has written about Belgians being stinky on the train and all that, so Sarah will have to take that back too...

I'm sorry Heidi. I've never found you stinky either and I know many that are nice smelling just like you. However, I can only speak from my brief experience where I worked in Brussels where there were a few - not everyone - but definitely more than one who had a bit of an odour problem. There also seemed to be a wider group who wore the same clothing for days on end but many in that group still didn't stink. But for those few that did stink it was a very real experience. It was both from the body and from the mouth from what I assumed was a lack of brushing the teeth. Again I apologize for insulting your nation and/or you.

An I will regulary (but without notification) check if it gets enough water and love.

Woo hoo - what a debate we have going here. ASG - I'll have you know I may wear the same clothes a couple of days in a row but I never stink. I keep clean, thanks. And if I ever have a breath problem, just shoot me. Clean teeth = clean soul. I know those smells you are describing all too well. They did, however, make more of an impact on me my first years here. You can sort of get used to anything after a while. With that said, I still avoid trains here in the summer. But things are changing. The younger generations seem to take better care.

As for the plant -- everyone wants a piece of it it seems so we will start renting out its leaves for 10 bucks a head a month. We'll name each leaf after he/she who adopts it. ASG - you want to be the first to sign up? Is that last anonymous NH by any chance? Will you check it during your safety inspection? Want a leaf named after you? Just 10 bucks? C'mon. You know you do.

Only non-smelly, colorfully-dressed people are eligible to sign up for our adopt-a-leaf program I'm afraid.

I will only sign up if the proceeds will go for the Buy a New Vacuum for Heidi Fund (BNVHF).

I'm embarrassed to be alive.

First of all: the plant stays mine. NO ONE CAN ADOPT IT.

Second: ecologically nothing is wrong with wearing the same clothes a few days in a row. It's actually the best thing to do, even for your health. (you wear your clothes a couple of days and then you wash 'em. putting clothes back in the closet after wearing them one day is worse and filthier... but I am guilty of that technique too, I'm afraid)

third: sorry but I am sure that big rat traps in NY and metros in London are stinkier and dirtier than everything about Belgium menioned here in these comments... So no, I absolutely don't agree with the comments about stinky Belgium. The fact that American have 'claen teeth' is also a weird thing. It's not because they are whiter that they are cleaner. By the way, every person is born wih a certain teeth colour, and you can bleach it when you're not happy with it, but do know that that is bad for your teeth. You can better have yellow healthy natural teeth, than bleached brittle teeth...

Heidi - I get your point but you don't get mine.

Perhaps I worked with exceptions in my job but you completely disregard my own experience. I can't speak for all Belgians but I have to repeat that my experiences were very real.

I have never worked in NYC so I can't compare. All I know is that in more than 10 years of experience working in the USA I never sat down to a meeting where I was bombarded by the smell of another professional person. Never. Not once. While during my nearly six years working in Brussels this happened on a DAILY basis and was not limited to one stinky individual but three on a regular basis as well as the odd additional person who I did not have daily contact.

That would suggest to me that the odds of encountering a smelly Belgian are considerably higher than meeting a smelly American. Does this mean that all Belgians are smelly? Certainly not. Does this mean that all Americans smell nice - no way.

I also agree that clothes can and should be worn more than once before being washed. I do it myself. I'm not sure why putting them back in the wardrobe for future use makes them dirtier than wearing them immediately the next day for you but I agree it is better for the environment as well as just general household work load to wear them as long as they are 'clean'.

As for the teeth thing I really don't mind about the color. Mine aren't very white. I don't even (really) mind about people having teeth missing. What I do mind is sitting down to a meeting with my boss where tears are brought to my eyes every time he speaks because of the smell that comes out of it.

So you don't have to agree with me about 'stinky Belgium'. Your experience is obviously more important than mine as like you say you are Belgian and you have 29 years to my scant 5.5. But you cannot, say that I didn't experience what I did. Because that would be calling me a liar. And I'm not. :-)

I do believe your experience. I was just plaing the devil's advocate. And I wasn't really just teasing you, my dear. So sorry if I hurt your feelings! That was not my intention!

What is this? An episode of Little House on the Prairie?! Now what lesson did Laura and Albert learn today? Love Nelly

Anonymous said...

You would be Nelly.
Seriously. I'd be laura. You'd be Nelly. Heidi can be Mary - sorry about the whole blind thing but it makes you more sympathetic (like being belgian) :-)
ASG (aka Laura).

Terry's Albert.

Heidi and Sarah Face The Day said...

Actually ASG - you'd be Nelly because Heidi and I would be happily wearing our same dress and apron-like thing for weeks and weeks, except on Sundays of course, while you, as Nelly, would be changing your dress like 3 times a day and wearing your curls. I'd certainly be Ma Ingalls. Kind, patient, loving, totally in love with Charles. You might also have a chance at being Mary because every now and then she actually brings you to my mind when I'm watching - especially in her blind days for some reason - the eyes I think - so blueeeeeeee and intense. Tonight's episode was grand! What's his name who always sings Old Dan Tucker was back with a bad leg and ready to kill himself till Charles tricked him into saving both of their lives Good old Charles. I love him! Love, Caroline Ingalls.

Is 17 (now 19 posts) some kind of record? Should we get a prize? The plant maybe? :-))

Heidi and Sarah Face The Day said...

Nope - but 20 is! I win! I win! I win! I feel like Laura Ingalls dressed like a clown throwing water on Almonzo's date at the circus and giving Manly a huge clown kiss just before Nells introduces the Fat Lady as his sister! That, ASG, is how it feels to win the prize here at Face The Day! The plant is now MINE!!! Can you see the fireworks? Can you hear the horns tooting?
