The above photo is from 1 September 2026, the start of the 22nd!!!! year here at Face The Day - so it's time for another major Face the Day Flashback! Below you can go backward in time with us. Though we don't keep the blog up to date anymore, it's really fun for us to be able to at least get a photo on or around the 30th of August every year. We’re trying to face our changing faces head-on! It’s a bit confronting as we do see the differences each year – but oh well, love thyself and all… It's still me, me, me - or rather us, us, us world here at Face the Day - but just once a year thankfully :-). We are proud (and ashamed) that we were taking selfies already way back in 2005. We were daily, selfie queens.
Another year has gone by and Sarah is feeling her age right now. The search for the right HRT to deal with her menopause symptoms has been somewhat of a success with a lot of improvements since last year. Finally, she can sleep again - and with more sleep comes more balance again - so the future looks more stable. With that said, at the moment she's got a bad knee and ankle and will be having an MRI tomorrow to see what's wrong. Hopefully nothing too bad! Besides continuing the job she started last year and still enjoying the Arts & Crafts Club she started in 2024, the big news is that a new foster child moved in a couple of weeks ago. Sarah has also been risking her life each week, twice, giving driving lessons to her previous foster child and also to someone else she's been mentoring :-). Exciting times ahead - plus some aches and pains along the way, no doubt! If you look carefully, you can see a blue cane leaning against the door in the back of today's photo. Let's hope that cane is gone soon and that Sarah can get back to exercising daily and feeling younger than her age - because now she's feeling achy and old. Here's to a good year ahead full of good health and balance! Oh yeah - important to note she's got new glasses in this photo! (and that's a cane you see leaning against the door - which Sarah has had to use due to her leg and ankle issue)...
As for Heidi, she's staying young and fit as usual. This year has been all about the choir she is a big part of - not just singing - but also the head of the board. It's keeping her busy and not only involved in music and singing - but also in planning and a sort of project management. She's also involved in a future theater piece with the choir. Nice times ahead with concerts, shows, which she's part of and/or just watching. Her kids are growing, with the oldest moving into a student kot soon (leaving the nest), which will be a big change for everyone. By the way, did you notice that her hair hasn't changed that much since last year? That's a change in itself! Stay tuned for next year's FTD, when we promise she'll have a new hairstyle again :-).
Sad news which must be shared, at least we think so. We can no longer have a birthday dinner together twice a year at our favorite Thai place in Kortrijk, which has our favorite meal in Kortrijk. Every time, we basically ordered exactly the same things, twice. We enjoyed it so much and it was a great way to make sure we celebrated our birthdays together - and that we grow old together. It's so tragic to say - but the Thai place abruptly shut down and that is the end of that! We could seriously cry about this. We now definitely need a new spot with a new favorite meal. The search is on. We have until Heid's birthday at the end of November to figure it out!
Here's to next year - the 22nd one here. See you then!
And Happy 21st Face the Day Anniversary to us!!!
