The above photo is from 1 September 2025, the start of the 21st!!!! year here at Face The Day - so it's time for another major Face the Day Flashback! Below you can go backward in time with us. Though we don't keep the blog up to date anymore, it's really fun for us to be able to at least get a photo on or around the 30th of August every year. We’re trying to face our changing faces head-on! It’s a bit confronting as we do see the differences each year – but oh well, love thyself and all… It's still me, me, me - or rather us, us, us world here at Face the Day - but just once a year thankfully :-). We are proud (and ashamed) that we were taking selfies already way back in 2005. We were daily, selfie queens.
Again, what a year it has been! As for Sarah, this has been a tough year on the work and health front. Thanks to the combination of stress from work and ups and downs from major (peri)menopause, Sarah has been totally our of balance for way too long now. On the other hand, she's been doing her best to get and stay fit by exercising everyday and building strength and muscles. On 20 August, it was exactly one year since her last period (after more than 470 periods in her life), so she "officially" started menopause. On 18 August, she "officially" started taking hormones for the first time in her life. It's too early to see if they work or not, so tune in next year to find out if Sarah is still on a search for balance or has found it again by then! Coincidentally, in connection to the work struggles and stress and due to being on the edge of a burnout for more than a year now, while working through it, Sarah has "officially" started a new job role today at 40% in combination with her other role, which ends on 31 December 2025. After that, Sarah will start fulltime in her new job. Let's see how she's doing and feeling in it this time next year! Fingers crossed that between now and then that the menopause symptoms reduce and the feeling of well-being increases. Luckily, despite all of the imbalance and upheaval of the past year, Sarah is still enjoying so many aspects of her life, such as family, friendships and activities. One of the best choices Sarah made this year was to start up an Arts & Crafts Club that meets every month to work on little, beautiful projects. It brings her peace - and so much joy! For the moment, Sarah and her family do not have any foster kids living with them. The coming year will also probably bring new foster relations into their hearts and home. So much can change in a year!
As for Heidi, she's a busy bee as usual, taking music lessons as usual, singing in the city choir and part of its board - and spending a lot of time with her husband and kids. One of her kids is an adult and the other in middle school - but they still have fun on holiday together (this past summer in Italy, for example). And have you noticed? Heidi's hair is a different color than it was last year, of course. Heidi is still following the fodmap diet and taking good care of her health and staying fit as usual.
Last year, we promised a 20th Face the Day anniversary year extravaganza. Guess what - we totally forgot it's been 20 years and we are too tired (can't you see it in our eyes), well, that's all. This is it. Maybe next year! :-)
Good news though, at least we think so. We are still managing to have a birthday dinner together twice a year at our favorite Thai place in Kortrijk, which has our favorite meal in Kortrijk. Every time, we basically order exactly the same things, twice. We enjoy it so much and it's a great way to make sure we celebrate our birthdays together - and that we grow old together.

The above photo is from 31 August 2020, the start of the 16th!!!! year here at Face The Day - and the first Coronavirus year at Face the Day - so much so that we had to stand 1.5m from each other then. What a crazy year it was and continued to be - and still is now!
In 2014, we changed to pictures with no glasses (above) for the first time (see below) to really be able to track our aging over the years. We still plan to go for 50 more at least! Here's a link to our 2014 post.

Now we can have flashbacks that will include 17 photos from the consecutive years every time!
