Saturday 12 January 2007: It's Vredeseilanden Day around Flanders!

Sarah says:
Today we were busy bringing hot chocolate and warm pancakes to volunteers selling Vredeseilanden products around Wevelgem to raise money for farmers in Africa so that they can make sustainable farming and live off of their earnings. Every year such events are organized in Flanders. This year the money raised will go to milk farmers in Tanzania.
We started at 8:00 and got home by 11pm as we stayed to eat dinner with some of the volunteers. Our kid had a good day and we were glad to see her wanting to help and starting to understand that she can help and that we have it pretty lucky here in our rich, western world. We don't have to rub it in her face. She's at an age where she observes and listens and starts to get a little bit how the world works and sometimes doesn't work at all for people.
But she also had a lot of fun! Heidi's sister and brother-in-law were there with us the whole time and my daughter is a big fan of them.
